FAQ
Chronograph literally means “time writer”. You can both tell the time with a chronograph and use it to measure intervals of time.
If an automatic watch is worn every day and subject to an average amount of hand motion, it will not need to also be wound manually. However, if you are preparing an automatic watch to be worn again after it has been left in storage for some time, simply shaking and setting it will not suffice. We therefore recommend that you wind the crown of your automatic wristwatch several times to support power supply before wearing it again.
A crown (also called a stem or a pin) is the button on the outside of the watch case that is used to set the time and date.
Always use a soft and clean cloth to wipe the glass of your watch.
ATM or “atmospheres” is the amount of pressure a watch can withstand. 5ATM will withstand pressures equivalent to about 50 meters, or 164 ft under water. It is important to note that this is a measure of pressure NOT depth, 5ATM doesn't mean the watch can be used diving to a depth of 50 meters.
If it is a stainless steel strap : To prevent rust, wipe off moisture, sweat or dirt with a soft cloth when convenient. To wash the band, apply some water to metal bands / bracelets when stains on the surface are noticeable.
For heavy stains, use a tooth brush and remove the stain that has accumulated in the gaps of the band / bracelet segments . Protect the watch head from moisture entering the watch by wrapping it in plastic wrap etc. After washing, take special care to wipe the gaps of the band/bracelet segments with a towel and dry the entire watch thoroughly.
If it is a leather strap : Wipe off moisture and sweat as soon as possible by gently rubbing it with a soft dry cloth, and place it in a well-ventilated area after removing it from the wrist. Do not expose your watch to sunlight for extended periods (eg. on a car dashboard) since this may lead to discoloration/transformation/breakage of your watch’s leather strap.
If it is a silicone strap: Silicone straps are more durable to the effects of moisture/sweat. Using a damp soft cloth clean the straps thoroughly and wipe it clean.
A movement (or calibre) is the mechanism inside the watch case that measures the passage of time (and possibly other information including date, month and day). Movements may be entirely mechanical (with moving parts), entirely electronic (potentially with no moving parts), or a blend of the two.
